Durban

This past weekend the four of us drove to Durban. Durban is about 550 km south of Joberg. Durban is "South Africa's playground", and they definitely live up to the name. We stayed in this hostel/bed and breakfast just north of town. this place was right on the beach. the Indian Ocean was right at our door step. we had our own room, a pool, and a bar downstairs all for the price of 80Rand per person ($12) During our weekend here, Beach Africa was going all on that week. There was surfing tournaments, skateboard competitions, etc. people were everywhere, street venders, bands, a "fashion show". I put this in quotes because it was a very lame attempt. there was a main stage where some event took place. they basically took people from the audience and tried different promotiomal things, event, dance competitions. It was basically lamer than the MTV beachhouse crap. It was all in good fun, and the participants got VODOCOM gear.

the Indian Ocean is amazing. It is winter here, but in Durban it is beautiful. 85 and sunny durring the day. The nights get a litte chilly, but no more chilly than a beachnight at the jersey shore sometimes. After we went clubbing on Friday night. My buddy Rahul and I took a little dip in the Ocean. We were the only idiots out there, but it was such a great time. The water was so warm.

Even though the Joberg winters are very mild, there is still a nip in the air at night. It felt really good to go the beach and get some sort of summer out of my summer.

Saturday night we went into Durban to get our club on again. We went to this join called H2O, which basically consisted of 1000 Indian people and me. These Indians are straight up south african, they have been here for many generations, and Durban has a huge chunk of the population. So basically I danced with some Indian chicks (which were all about 17 by the way). After the club, I stayed up to watch the sunrise over the Indian Ocean. Dozens of fisherman were out already getting an early rise to catch some food. I got some amazing pics. The digital camera came in handy.
